Step by step scenery sketch made in watercolor.
1. Lightly draw the outlines of the different components of the picture. Add a layer of water and the colors desired. This will allow the colors to flow beautifly into one another. Let it dry.
2. Add another, thinner layer of water, concentrated to the areas that are to be colored, and fill in the different components (here clouds and water) with light, free strokes. Leave the darkest parts out to prevent them from flowing into the rest of the picture when working on the next layer! Let it dry.
3. Fill in the darkest parts of the added components to specify variations in light and depth. Use more concentrated strokes of the brush.
4. Finally, add the dark foreground and create a depth, and Voila! all done (:
This is one possible way of working with watercolor, but the best thing you can do is to experiment your way to the style and technique that suits you the best. Playing and trying different things without the fear of failure is the single most effective way of learning.
